Course Details

High school is demanding—academically, socially, emotionally. The Zenned Out Student is a semester-long course designed to give students something they rarely receive in a traditional schedule: practical tools for calm, focus, and genuine well-being.

Rather than treating stress and anxiety as unavoidable side effects of achievement, this course invites students to understand how happiness, attention, and habits actually work—and how small, research-backed shifts can make a meaningful difference in daily life.

Inspired by the work of Dr. Laurie Santos, creator of Yale University’s most popular course on happiness, students will explore psychology, neuroscience, and mindfulness through accessible readings, short videos and podcasts, reflective journaling, and gentle weekly practices. This is not a lecture-heavy class; it is experiential, reflective, and designed to meet students where they are.

What Students Will Experience

  • 🧠 The Science of Happiness – Learn what research actually says about stress, motivation, gratitude, and contentment.

  • 📝 Guided Journaling & Reflection – Structured prompts help students notice patterns, habits, and growth.

  • 🌱 Mindfulness Without the Pressure – Simple, realistic practices students can use in school, sports, and everyday life.

  • 💬 Supportive Group Conversations – Low-stakes discussions that normalize stress and build perspective.

  • 🛠 Tools That Transfer – Strategies students can apply immediately to schoolwork, relationships, and self-care.

In a culture that constantly pushes students to do more, this couse offers permission—and structure—to slow down, reflect, and develop skills that support both achievement and well-being.

Because calm, focused students learn better—and live better.
