TESTIMONIALS

Yes!! The projects, where I could apply my knowledge on real world topics, really made me interested. Because I wasn't just learning for the sake of learning math, but I was learning because it interested me! Like the sine / cosine project where I learned how it connected to heart rate and blood pressure really interested me because I want to be a doctor when I'm older AND I have heart issues as well (like tachycarida, which I have, where the period is shorter in the function). And really emphasizing during the lessons what needed to be known. Not making me memorize and learn everything, but telling me where I have to pay more attention. And the concept maps really helped me understand everything! Thank you for making this math class enjoyable!

I really liked how the whole course went. I did ask for more practice each week as I felt the lessons weren't enough practice for me. Because I would learn the content and then immediately do practice. And then a few days later I couldn't recall the content as good as I wanted. But Mrs. Hinman gave me more practice, I felt way more confident. Other than that, I really enjoyed how the course was structure and helped me stay organized. And I liked being able to see my assignments at the start of each week so I could plan my week accordingly. And thank you for being flexible with my schedule as well!

It is really helpful to stick to Mrs. Hinman's plan. I tried to stick with every due date and every assignment. Doing a little every day. That made me understand the content the best and the weekly classes were helpful too then. Just stay on track and it will benefit you a lot! And ask lots of questions because Mrs. Hinman can always answer them :)

"I just really wanted to send you an email thanking you.  The way you split up your class and had us to the practice exam really helped me on the real exam.  I remember starting the class a month later than everyone and being stressed to catch up but now I can't believe the class is over!  Everything I see in real life and all my interactions with people I always relate it to psychology.  When someone cuts me off in traffic I think of the fundamental attribution error or when I see my 6 or 12 year old siblings do something I automatically think of Erickson and Piagets theory!  I definitely think you prepared us a lot for this exam and all the practice tests from the book really helped me.  I also really appreciated how you took time to read my projects and assignments and then give me book and TV recommendations.  I will definitely be reading that book you told me about and watching that show.  I will definitely be recommending this class to others!  The projects we did also made me realize a lot of things about myself and I definitely want to go back and read them."

I really liked how you put a personal comment after each assignment. Most teachers just say "well done" or something, but I could tell you really enjoy psychology with the perspectives you gave. It gave me more interest in psychology and to study the material!

I found that the way you constantly engaged us in class and in our homework, connecting what we learned to the bigger picture, allowed for us to find our own intrinsic motivation. I also found that this was emphasized and encouraged through our unit projects. It also helps to have a teacher who is truly passionate about what we are learning!

This was the most enjoyable class [AP Psychology] I have ever had I think. The workload wasn’t too little or too much and the content was very fun and interesting. I think that this course prepared me really well for the exam.

I like how in some of the feedback that you would give us in our notes or projects you would give us real life examples and show us how some of the terms can be seen in our day to day life. [AP Psychology]

I enjoyed the course structure [Advanced Math], I feel like it kept me motivated to learn further. Everything about the course, the weekly emails, daily interaction in case of any questions, and pretty much everything about the course really helped me to stay motivated to learn, plus the fact that I was learning what I wanted to learn also helped me to be motivated.

You made us relate to it in real life which made want to do it because it might be helpful in the future. I very much enjoyed forums, especially when they connect to a personal story or opinion. They are an easy way to learn a concept and how to apply it to your own life which motivates you more. I enjoyed how you put extra videos and ted talks about how the topic applies to more than just the content it is, and now I cannot go a day without applying something from AP Psych to every day life and I'm so happy I have that knowledge now! I think AP Psychology made me more understanding of others, but also more aware of myself and my own thoughts and feelings.

I loved the way how at the beginning of the year you set off the belief in me that making mistakes is what will make me successful. That I do not have to be perfect on assessments, but it is important that I find my areas of weakness and improve in them. Not a single time throughout the year I have googled a question because I did not know how to answer it. I did my best to show what I know, and the questions I got while working out a problem, made my brain even more eager to learn the answer. Learning from my mistakes is what I think made me successful. [AP Stats]

Personally, I was interested in learning the content [AP Psychology] because I thought it would be cool to be able to apply this knowledge to real life scenarios. You sharing your stories and experiences with us and connecting it to concepts, helped me with wanting to do the same. Your stories and experiences also helped make the relationship between you and your students more personal and relatable.

I loved how you would give us examples and explain with your kids, because it helped me see that it relates to the topic.

Ms. Hinman is a great teacher. I was definitely a hard student to deal with, but she was very patient and helped me out a lot. I wasn't very interested in math, but she made the course [Advanced Math 2] fun and enjoyable. I can tell she's very passionate about what she teaches and she used different strategies to help me out when I didn't understand. I learned a lot this year and it's all thanks to her.
